Fanny Aguilera

Scientific illustrator and behavioural ecologist

About me

I'm currently pursuing a Master's degree in Animal and Human Behavior at the University of Rennes 1 and completing an internship at CEA, where I'm being supervised by the excellent Kévin Barré (CESCO) and Benoit Charrasse (CEA). During this internship, I am exploring an incredibly fascinating topic: how light pollution affects bats' hunting strategies and success. It's a topic that lies at the intersection of behavioural ecology and conservation, and I'm excited to learn more.

My professional goals are twofold: I'm passionate about pursuing pure research, but I also want to develop my skills in scientific illustration to effectively communicate complex scientific ideas and raise awareness about pressing ecological issues.

I can't wait to combine these interests and contribute to both scientific understanding and public engagement.

Professional experience

September 2022 - June 2023

August 2023 - July 2024

September 2024 - ...

Start of my Masters in Animal and Human Behaviour at the University of Rennes 1. Discovery of behavioural ecology through the study of snake swimming at Chizé, supervised by Xavier Bonnet and Guillaume Fosseries.

Year off.
First 5 months in the field as field assistants collecting daily behavioural and physiological data.Assistant during the darting season: dart management, physiological data collection. Then 6 months of data analysis at the Primatology Centre of the University of Strasbourg. Supervised by Charlotte Canteloup.

Continuation of my Master's thesis and 6-month internship on the effects of light pollution - affecting the spatio-temporal availability of resources - on insectivorous chiropterans. Specifically, the study uses functional and behavioural metrics to investigate inter-individual behavioural interactions and identify the mechanisms driving the consequences of anthropogenic pressures on biodiversity. Supervised by Benoit Charrasse and Kévin Barré.
